Epoch Trails: explore history through imagined lives
Epoch Trails is a free history and life simulation game with two ways to begin: draw a random journey, or choose a date along Earth’s timeline. A microscopic world, a prehistoric landscape and an artisan’s workshop offer different resources and decisions. Short background notes link to evidence; the playable scenes and outcomes are invented.
Random journey or choose your own era
Random mode draws from curated stories and generated settings across deep time, prehistoric life and human history. Custom mode accepts years before present or BCE/CE calendar years, from approximately 4.54 billion years ago to 2026 CE. The 18 story cards are shortcuts, not the limit of the time selector. Available life groups and broad habitats depend on the chosen date.
Twelve chapters, different kinds of life
Each journey follows a fictional 12-chapter arc. Microscopic life balances energy and nutrients, animals face feeding and environmental choices, and human stories explore skills and relationships. Very early Earth uses environmental observation when evidence cannot support a specific organism. Chapters are not exact ages, and a single lifetime does not jump between geological periods.
Save a passport of completed journeys
Read resource costs and setback risks before choosing. You can also use Autoplay and change the pace; background tabs pause it. The current run and the latest 20 finished journeys save in this browser, with a shared English and Chinese save. Famous-person routes are imaginative roleplay, not biographies or attributed quotations. Custom settings use broad categories rather than reconstructing every species, city or year.
